IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME (IBS) AND FUNCTIONAL GASTROINTESTINAL DISORDERS
Extensive experience in advising and managing people with IBS and other medically unexplained gut symptoms, using the low FODMAP diet (a diet low in fermentable carbohydrates) for symptom improvement or in identifying other food intolerances. The low FODMAP diet is a specialist diet that should be followed under dietetic supervision.
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE (CROHN’S DISEASE AND ULCERATIVE COLITIS)
Specialist knowledge in elemental, polymeric and LOFFLEX dietary treatments, working closely with Gastroenterologists to help people with Crohn’s disease to achieve remission. Expert reviewer on dietary management of IBD for PEN-Nutrition Group and specialist NHS dietitian in IBD.
COELIAC DISEASE AND NON-COELIAC GLUTEN SENSITIVITY
Extensive knowledge of the gluten-free diet, having worked in the NHS coeliac disease clinic for 10 years. Publications on coeliac disease and bone health and long-term follow-up.
Able to assess diet and provide advice to prevent constipation and identify potential food intolerances.
Able to assess, diagnose and treat food intolerance through food elimination and help advise those with established food intolerance (e.g. lactose, fructose, histamines).
WEIGHT MANAGEMENT AND OTHER SERVICES
Obesity and healthy eating; experience in helping people with weight management to ensure that their diets are optimal for health and are nutritionally balanced.
Dietary assessment and intervention; other GI diseases/disorders (e.g. pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy), low calcium or iron intake, general nutrition support (helping people to gain weight healthily).
